riding to work this morning, pulled brakes to slow on a hill, rear brake makes a odd sound, and lever comes back to the bars. stop to inspect. lever wont return to normal position.
sussed it out, brake cable had snapped in the middle where it runs at the side of crossbar. on inspection cable looks slightly warped and rusty.
bike has been in the shed for 4 months untouched. could cable have rusted so quickly from moisture in the housing?

gobsmacked totally gobsmacked……the font of all knowledge has failed me. 🙄

i had to join meturlagisttrackworld to ask. rustybob told me that crap cables can rust in a couple of months, in the right conditions.

I don’t think anyone here uses cables anymore 🙂

We have all sorts of horrors in the shop, usually on an outer cable bend where moisture has got in and collected. Cheap cables don’t help

Sorry to miss your SOS ton. Only in extreme circumstances have I seen a cane rust through.

Must be some damp attracting shed 🙂
