    I’m looking at spending a tenner a month on a phone for my daughter and looking at Galaxy Ace or Fame. Are there any other I should consider?

    She wants an iPhone 5s but that’s not happening!

    We do spy as you go (stops any silly bills), older two kids have slightly older HTC or Galaxy Ace phones, bought second hand, and all on Vodafone so that the Guardian App is available.

    The number of times the come back from school telling stories of lost or smashed brand new iPhones that friends have, or friend on limited contract who ran up big bill etc put me off expense and contracts. If they want posher phone, they save up for it….maybe then they will care for it more.

    My daughter has a Galaxy Fame, £10 a month with Tesco on a contract, she seems pretty happy with it. The contract is capped with an emergency buffer of £2.50.
