  • Smaller tyre at the rear – good/bad idea?

Got a 2.1 evo nobby nic that’s almost new so too good to sell really.

Good idea to have it on the rear with a 2.25 up the front? There’s quite a size different in reality…

    No problems with that

I run 2.3 up front with a 2.1 at the back. Supposedly reduces rolling resistance but i can’t say i’ve noticed.

When the back wears out, which it’s doing quite rapidly, I’ll be moving the 2.3 to the back and slapping something wider on the front.

I ride like that most of the time.
Only time I have two matching tyres on is when putting two wide tyres on for downhill duties.
Normal riding about means a skinny rear tyre.

Isn’t that how you catch cat aids?

Have run 2.3 on front and 2.1 on rear before (old frame wouldn’t take anything bigger in rear) and never had a problem, you’ll be fine.

certainly wouldn’t do it the other way around. That would just be weird.

Don’t do it. You’ll surely die.

I’m currently running 2.1 front and 2.2 rear, so make sure never to listen to my opinion.

I used to use the classic Onza Porcupine 2,0″ front/Panaracer Smoke 1,75″ rear back in the day, hell of a setup.

The claim is that the bigger front tyre gives better traction for steering while the narrower rear reduces rolling resistance.

Normally run bigger up front and slightly smaller on the rear.
Currently running the opposite, as the trails are dry and fast and thats what I had for summer tyres.
Once it gets gopping again, the Hans Dampf on front, Baron on the back.
