Is anyone thinking of doing this on Saturday? I quite fancy it, for no other reason than I haven't done much riding in that area.

Yeah we're planning to go - pretty much same reason as you. Picked up the leaflet at Dean Barwick challenge which we do every year. Seems a nice way for the little schools to raise some money.

Map suggests slack randy is a road / track onto the fells....

It is my local area. The riding is great but it can be difficult to navigate on your own as paths are rarely used unlike the Lakes.

This is a great chance to get your bearings in the area with a good route clearly set out for you. There are some great views towards the Lakes and over the Orton valley. This part of Cumbria is now part of the Yorkshire Dales and is typical Dales riding.

It would be great to see the trails used far more as it is a very easy stop off from Keswick or Scotland (10 mins from J39 of the M6) but very different

Everyone at Dean Barwick got a flyer so imagine a lot of Lakes / Lancs locals will attend. We haven't entered in advance but will be 4 people on the day.

Not ridden that area since early days of mtb in 1989. I remember a tiny shortlived mtb shop in Appleby and a bmx track at Holesfoot. And slipping off in the Rutter Force Ford....

Did anybody do the ride then?

I ended up marshalling the top gate in to the nature reserve with my daughter, we had a great time and everybody coming through was in very high spirits. There were 77 riders which I thought was pretty good for the first year. Hopefully I will be riding next year.

I did it. Nice spin round on unfamiliar (to me) tracks. The organisers and the volunteers were great. That Slack Randy climb was a bit of a bugger, straight into the wind!
When will the photos be posted, any idea?

Did 40k with the whole family. Eldest lad (15) was joint second overall - I was supposed to "accompany" him but got dropped after about 2km.... luckily a nice singlespeeder from Wheelbase and Henry from IoM managed to ride with him instead ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks guys.

Mrs and youngster came in about 20mins later.

Really friendly and well organised - thanks to everyone. Took a while to chip the tenacious sheep poo off 4 bikes yesterday!

failedengineer - I will send an email about the pictures, not sure myself. I took a few but they were rubbish to be truthful.

Mick r - Well done to your lad I remember the group of three coming through that he was part of, did he take a detour about half way through the ride aswell?

I know Henry got up to at least 2nd then went very wrong somewhere near the monument (because he caught me up again after slack randy and we sort of rode together after that).

My Thomas nearly went wrong before the stone wall crossover so waited for wheelbase Matt to catch and advise.

I just slightly overshot at the monument with 2 other guys - otherwise all good!

What bikes were you guys on - I remember bikes more than people ๐Ÿ™‚

OK it was Henry who went wrong. He came back to our gate in a panic because he had got a bad direction, I got my map out and set him on his way. He set off up the hill again like a rocket. I had a chat with him back at the school when he was getting a pudding and he said he got back on track no problem so that was good.

We cycled to our marshal point, I had a Kaffenback and my daughter had a pale blue Frog bike.

Failedengineer - It looks like the photo's are filtering through on the school Facebook page rather than the slack randy page
