    on a budget.

Rail fares are prohibitive so we’re driving up to town.

Anyone in West London recommend somewhere to park the car for free for the night? Somewhere like a residential street near a tube station, ideally.

Resident areas close to tube stations are normally permit parking only because of people leaving cars there all the time.

The best bet is one of the out of town park and ride tube stations.

Parking restrictions are generally relaxed after 6 pm on Friday for the whole weekend as they are trying to stop commuter parking. Should be somewhere in Hammersmith/Shepherd’s Bush away from the shopping areas.

Check Hillingdon Station, It’s easily accessible from the A40 and has a fairly big car park. It’s often used as an out of town station for Wembley events. The only downside is that you are on the outer reaches of the tube network, realistically about 50minutes to get into central London.

As mentioned above most of the residential roads that would be most convenient are permit controlled for this reason. You could still do on street parking but expect to walk a fair distance to the station.

Yup, thought that was the case.

But (eg) 24hr parking at (eg) Richmond station is about £12, IIRC. And we’ll be there 2 days…

    Happy to do this.

I hear rumours of carriages without horses, that run under the very ground itself. What witchcraft is this?!

    I’d stay well away!

Stanmore tube (whilst not ideal for you) is cheap to park on the weekend (3 quid a day and loadable for multiple days) so I’d expect some of the other more parky/ridey tube stations to be similar. There’s somewhere on the TFL site that shows the stations with large car parks.

Plenty of uncontrolled parking after 5/6 pm on Friday in Hammersmith within 5 mins of tube – see attached
