I have Sky+ in our house and a second (old basic box) in the bedroom with a freesat card.

I have been offered a free Sky+ box – could I use it in place of the freesat box without having to pay for another Sky+ subscription? Or would it need a full Sky viewing card to take advantage of the Sky+ service?

you would need to upgrade the card to work with the sky+.
there is no extra charge if you are already paying multiroom.

Yeah I thought as much – we don’t have multiroom, just a feed from the dish into an old box using the freesat card.

Never mind, I shall pass on the offer then.

you need subscription for sky+ recording etc. you can also only do the whole 2 channel thing with two feeds. The advantages of the other sky+box might be that it will have the more up to date epg etc.

You’d also need 2 cables going to the 2nd box – if you don’t already

Very good point – it is just a single cable (which we could use if we just wanted to record, but not have the multichannel ability I guess).

Never mind, idea canned. I barely watch telly anyway, never mind in bed.
