Converting my commuter to singlespeed and found that my shimano chainset has no bolts so I can’t take the chainrings off.

What options do I have? Can you buy cheap RHS square taper arms/spiders?

Right, might try second hand as this was meant to be a ‘cheap’ project!

Can I just leave the triple on for now?

yeah should be ok to leave it on as long as you run the same chain, if you get slippage when pedalling you’ll need to change the front chainring and chain, it’s usually best to keep everything matched to avoid slippage tho.

I had exactly the same problem on my commuter. Cheap shimano square-taper cranks got taken off, and some race-face ones went on (courtesy of a mate)

I thought about grinding the inside and outside rings off, but it hardly seems worth the effort.

And yes, you could just leave the triple on, and put the chain on the middle ring – just looks a bit silly, that’s all.

I might have a go at grinding the outer ring off tomorrow.
