Does anyone have any idea if I can use a ramped chainring on my single speed fixie? The one that came with the bike is too big but a non-ramped replacement is stupidly expensive.

Yes, just make sure the chain line is good.

As long as your chain line is spot on and you have good chain tension I don’t think it would be a problem

Still not ideal though. Ramped chainrings are designed to so that the chain derails easily, which is not something you want on fixed. Cheap track rings aren’t hard to find.

Any suggestions on where I could find one for under £20?

Guessing it’s 110bcd after your wanted ad, so this will do the job very nicely

Surly last well, but the aforementioned On-One SS ring is all but identical at half the price.
Ramped are ok, & the steel Deore middle ring lasts ages. The teeth are shorter, but for SS generally fine. I ran one for a couple of years.

Loads of new & used SS chain rings on ebay.

    Just do a search:-
    Middleburn
    Goldtec
    e13
    Hope
    Raceface
    FSA
    Gamut

I managed to get a unused Gamut one for less than £10 posted a month ago.

Got one of these on my SS. Does the job nicely if you have Shimano cranks.
