About to set up the commuter (road) with new drive train and I’ve had enough of crappy chain tugs. Is it a good idea or even possible to just set the hub hard against the dropout limits thus getting the shortest poss chain length? Will it be still ok to derail by pushing by hand off chain ring if very tight? Also could I use a power link or would that only be undoable if chain is slack enough I.e derailed?

    I thank you

I think you need some slack.

Better chain tugs might be the answer or a better QR. I use a cheap on-one tug and a shimano QR and have very few issues.

Mmm yes I guess it could only be as tight as a whole link module would allow anyway… cheers, will reconsider.

A surly chain tug will answer your woes on this one. Pricey, but you only need one and you won’t be seeing anymore issues.
