    Ahhh, I did wonder what a ‘booter’ was. Another name for a ‘ramp’.

    My lad started with this…

    No pics, but….

    Self + Raleigh Strika (Green, with oh so rad triple clamps!) + bricks + plank + PEDAL HARDER! + lack of jumping skillz = Nutsmash.

    Ouch.

    eye, but no pics unfortunately, we have made some nice dirt ones recently, 6ft plus that lob you to the moon (well not really the moon) but pretty close 😉

    We have beginners woodwork in the garden. Goes up and down over the gravelled area (2ft wide) but the boys are still young. One side can be removed to make a small drop which the eldest can have a crack at soon.

    That looks more like a “sender” to be honest 😉

    Here’s the last one I made.

    I’ve got a pic somewhere of one we made from an old wooden slide a local playgroup were chucking out (about 16-17 years ago)

    I heart building jumps. Here’s one from last week [classification: sender]

    David, has the owner of that bike been launched into a tree above?

    some of my constructions:

    1/4 pipe / transfer ramp

    gap to booter

    tabletop

    stunt ramp

    gap to step down

    drop to sender

    We just reached a new level of ‘sender’ – or is that a ‘booter’?

    Who cares. Ye ha!

    It’s like a foreign language in here.

    I thought a booter was someone with a heavy right foot in a transit and a sender was the buttons for the telly?

    would be nice to be better at jumping but never really sure where to start or practice.

    Only got a video of ours, no pics. Not even sure if it is a booter??? but certainly a home made ramp. Promise not to laugh at my mates misfortune… I dare you 🙂

    Some bolted together metal, and my then 8 year old niece. And a proud uncle sat here!

    Edit: although I always thought booter = kicker = a jump with a steeper transition that kicks you up in the air? So this is just a ramp. Anyhoo.

    Stayed just up the hill from them a couple of years back and had a good look at them then. Would love to have had a crack at them but no suitable bike that week 🙁

    They’ve all changed alot in the last year or so; bit more tech now. There was two monster ones which have been taken down to make a 360 degree berm with. TBH, you’d need a BMX with slick tyres, otherwise you’d struggle to get through them with any sort of style. Been awaiting planning from the council for them for what seems like forever, and we chained them all up so you can’t really ride unless someone is there with keys. I never bother now anyway, too scared and too shit!

    Kicker = smallish jump
    Booter = larger jump

    Both I would only use for jumps with no built up landing i.e jumping to flat or into a natural downslope. Otherwise its just a double jump of various sizes.

    Note this is not written in stone, just my understanding!!!

    my favourite style of take off (and landings) to build -a “dirtbox”

    time consuming to build, but lets you create elevation without using much dirt (if not dirt is available locally), its often much easier to import timber than dirt!

    so much fun to ride as you are on a dirt surface rather than timber.
