If so, I have had a look through the site but to be honest a lot of the bikes on there do not look “real world” in that whilst they are incredibly light few look ridden 😕
This one is not mine, it’s my OH’s brothers build. 2009 Epic with X.0/XT and XTR wheels and pedals, carbon Elixirs. Syntace bars, Thomson post, Ritchey Pro stem, Selle Italia SLR saddle. He will be putting some TnT Geax Saguaro soon so should get the bike down to high 24’s. At current build it weights around high 24 – low 25 lbs.
His bike might not be a weight weenie wet dream but the cost was around £1500-1600 with some bits new, some used. He races it successfully in the local marathon series. Bike is fast but he’s fast as well, I’ve seen his results and he normally averages 28-29km/h on a 80-90km off road course. So in my opinion his build is a real world light weight build that can stand some abuse.
It’s not under 22lbs but still light. His mate had an S-works HT that was under 22lbs BUT it had an older SID and V brakes on it 🙂 Now with a newer SID and disc brakes is no loner that light.
Just finished last week, now lost the gold chain due to excessive ribbing on here!!
Didn’t try particularly hard and its certainly not had £££ thrown at it. Most bits were over 50% discounted from On-One or Merlin. I had a few bits in the parts bin, but I reckon under £500 outlay.
XTC Carbon – Total cost was about £350 frame was free 😀
Certain parts have changed now, namly saddle and seat post. I could knock another pound or so off. Tyres, Brakes, stem, crankset. But It was never meant to be light, just a winter hack.
