I had a ride on a Enduro the other week, not a bike I’d like to be pedaling up many hills!
A mate just has just gone from a Pitch to an Enduro and wishes he’d kept the Pitch!
I don’t think they’re bad to ride uphill, especially when propedal’s flicked on, considering they’re a 160mm bike that’s incredibly capable downhill. They’re not a great bike for whizzing through twisty singletrack on though, much better suited to steep fast rough point-and-shoot type trails. Depends on what and where you’re riding as to whether it’ll suit you really! Better than a heckler? Depends, but probably not if it’s your only bike. (Mine’s a 2010 comp fwiw).
I went from a Heckler to this, it pedals uphill miles better and is slightly lighter. Downhill it is different but much more confidence inspiring, the Heckler is easier to get air.
I got this frame last year a few days before going off to the Alps. £600 second hand. 2010 frame bought in 2011.
Previously I’d ridden my 2006 s-works out there
While it took me a day or so to get into the swing of the thing everyone said through the week I just got faster and faster until nobody could keep up with me.
It truly is a wicked bike. Being more used to a hard tail for most of my riding I’d start by going for line choice and when things just got too quick for me to process mentally I just pointed the thing. It took a few days to trust the abilities of the frame
I can’t wait to take it there in July for another week.
I’ve ridden it in the UK a bit too and it’s ok but I prefer a hard tail really. The Enduro makes everything way too easy in my opinion.
Thanks for the responses folks. Whilst I’m a big fan of the heckler, one of the main reasons I’m looking to upgrade is its just to short for me, and to get comfy on the bike I’ve had to make a couple of compromises to the set up.
It wouldn’t be my only bike, I have an anthem for XC duties and a 456. The point and shoot ability sounds good to me, given I’m shit, however my main reservation is whats its like to pedal uphill. I’m not expecting it to win any prizes for hill climbing, just so long as its better (or at lease no worse)than the heckler, which IMO is an absolute dog when it has to go upwards.
Yep you are right, they did say they came with a triad shock, but I queried it and they confirmed it was an rp23. Five minutes later I looked at the ad and they’d changed it!
Anyway, Since they’re keeping it until wednesday for me I have then to decide! Decisions decisions…I was out on the heckler tonight and it really is a nice bike…..
The Enduro is the BEST bike to ride up hills because it rides back down them so well. Everything is so sorted on them. I have been searching for this bike since I started riding (18yrs ago)
Got last years S-Works and built it up for year round Alps work. Perfect. If I lived somewhere less mountainous I’d think Stumpy Evo.
Hi Rob cant wait to bring mine out to the Alps this year. Been at Glentress all day and it climbs better than a any of my other Enduros. The frames on sale at that price are a steal as was mine from the same store. Bought the full bike because I couldnt get a carbon frame
Are any of the bikes in your household a medium, and if so do you know how far the post can be inserted into the seattube. Only reason I ask is that I’ve got a dropper post which on my heckler is inserted 7 inches into the frame, and I’m assuming it’ll have to be something similar on the enduro. Obviosuly its a bent tube however, so want to check for any sizing issues. Once again my shorl legs are causing me bike sizing issues!
All the medium endros can take the 125 mm droper posts. The small need the 100 mm post. Im not home till Wednesday to measure but the Specialised website wilk give you the anount of insert for the command posts so you could compare.
Now with a fill in Charge Spoon Ti freebie saddle, and a cheapo seatpost while I (eventually!) get round to changing to a newer/better dropper post. Tyres changed to some massive phatttttnezz in the shape of 2.4″ Rubber Queens. Swaps between flats and Time platforms. Oh, and dork disk on rear wheel removed as well, of course!
(Pic hosted on retrobike, not because it’s a retro bike! 🙂 )
Have you considered a Stumpjumper Evo? I have one and its light enough for xc but tough enough for bigger terrain too with slacker angles than a standard stumpy, kind of in between a stumpjumper and an Enduro a good compromise. I looked at an Enduro but I think its a bit big to haul around an xc trail such as Cwmcarn Afan etc.

I got mine for the very reason that I think it’s ideal for looning around at trail centres. I’m not in to the process of racing to the top, or sitting in a sweaty van full of stormtroopers to go back to the top of the hill, but I do rather like the fun on the way down! Enduro fits that bill perfectly, IMO.
