Came across the Shimano Metrea groupset. Looks awesome. And a really good idea. A commuter focused groupset. Essentially a road groupset with flat bar or bullhorn bar bits, disc brakes, an amazing looking 1x crank, all with sensible metals to stop it going rusty in 5 seconds in the winter weather.

    Just a shame it’s priced near Dura-ace / Ultegra range 🙁

Looks like it’s designed for a Raleigh Vektar

No hubs listed though, using standard roadie/CX hubs? Wonder why they gave up on Capreo, where they already had a 9-26 cassette and a hub to take it, could have made a great 1xN platform with a 9-36.

This seems to be aimed at the top end of the market, rather than Alfine. I always thought alfine was a bit…. soft.

I really like the styling. But that said I can’t stand the new XT groupset. This one is really to my taste.

Yes no hubs. I hadn’t spotted that. I guess they are both mtb and road hubs to be used depending on the frame. Or maybe they have a new set of hubs with proper cartridge bearings coming out….ideal for commuters?!!! No probably not.

Capreo was designed for small wheels i.e. Brompton.

Probably a bit too niche for Shimano.

I’m waiting for FM5 to make a comeback.
