  • Shadow to bottom half of TV screen, solution?

Finally sat down after a busy weekend at work, only to find the TV is playing up. A dark shadow has appeared across the bottom half of the screen. I can see the picture it’s just annoyingly darker than the top half.
Tried factory reset, latest software update etc but no improvement.
So is it knackered? Anyone else had a similar issue?

Depending on how dark it is, it sounds like the rear illumination (can’t remember the correct term for it) has failed.
Not an expert though, so hopefully it’ll be something a little less terminal!

Assuming it’s not an LED set, it sounds like a duff backlight.

Which may be difficult to sort without a soldering iron and some replacement parts.

In the old days of cathode ray tubes this meant somebody had gone near the screen with a powerful magnet and you needed to get the repair bloke out with a degausser.

No idea whether this applies to these modern flat TVs though.

Before throwing it out, try a different cable and /or source (DVD etc) to check the fault is actually with the TV.

Then buy a new one anyway!
