just wondering if any locals/anybody knew of a route where you could get to see the bore a couple a couple of times if you see what I mean, and finish by a nice brekkie stop as well coz it’s early Sunday

The A48 on the Forest of Dean side of the river would provide the best road to follow it on but you’d have to get a fair old sprint on to keep up with it. View at Minsterworth and then maybe head up river to see it at the road bridge at Over (maybe about 5 miles distance). Not sure where you’d get an early breakfast on a Sunday; you may have to pop on into Gloucester (a further mile or so).

Sounds like a good excuse for a balls out time trial. For most of the A48 after Chepstow you can see the estuary from a distance, but above it so it’s a good view. It’s a pretty fast road biking road too and it’s straighter than the river so you might stand a chance of getting to Gloucester first. I’m guessing it’s slower down there too.

You could do that without breaking a sweat on the Gloucester side of the river. If you start at The Anchor pub at Epney and then using the back roads up through Longney and you’ll catch it again at Stonebench where the river narrows up quite a bit and should have pushed the wave up a couple of feet too.

On the bend at Newnham is a good starting view. From the car park at the bottom of town you can see the bore start to form as it comes upstream.

This is where I used to get on to kayak it and plenty of other people still do, surfers, kayaks, boats tend to hang around in the channel at Newnham waiting.

As mentioned above the A48 is the best option as the bore can travel fast and you’ll be pushing it to get ahead.

White Hart Inn at Broadoak is probably your next view point.

Then the Severn Bore Inn which is on the A48 past Chaxhill. The road cuts across a bend in the river so you have a good chance to catch up.

? what about Hock Cliff (S of Fretherne), the N to Framilode then follow to fpath Epney over roads to Stonebench and then brekkie somewhee to recover……
