On my shimano saint brakes there is one dial for lever adjustment and another for free stroke. what exactly does the later do, does it change the bite point? As I would like them to bite earlier into the pull of the lever, if after adjusting them they still were not biting as early as i would like would adding more oil change this?

It’s supposed to adjust the bite point, but doesn’t seem to make a huge difference. I’d check you’ve got no air in the system as this can cause long lever travel too.
