I bought some SL’s (old style with rubber bung) from the classifieds but when they arrived I found that there was play in between the spindle and the body on the crank arm side of the pedal.
I’ve disassembled them but don’t know how to solve this.

    Are the bearings knackered?

    Any advice much appreciated 🙂

More likely the bushes worn. If you take bung out, fill hole with grease, and force bung back in – then repeat untill grease comes out near spindle it will help. you’ll likely need to rebuild soon though – kit’s £15.

Cheers, I thought I might have to get one of those rebuild kits.

If it is like my mallets I just did the only slightly tricky bit is getting the bushes out but jamming a screwdriver into one side, twisting and pulling sorted it.
Don’t leave it too long in case the spindle surfaces are getting damaged, you can check that without rebuilding though.

Make sure you buy the -02 rebuild kit. You will need some circlip pliers too.

Any questions just ask, done hundreds ish of them.
