Got given a 2&1/4 petrol '82 Series III Landy a month ago which has been handy as we have a track 0.9 miles long to the house. It's started on the button and run fine and been brilliant for getting up and down the track in the snow, leaving cars parked at the end.
Got home late last night, parked car and jumped in the Landy. It fired up fine and ran for a little while I turned it round but then cut out. Wouldn't restart but after a few minutes did so but then cut out again. Did this a few times and then refused to run more than a couple of seconds.
Suspected no fuel - gauge is broken - so trudged back to the house (in a near blizzard) and got some. Put it in but still the same: turned over, fired, ran a few seconds, died. Next time you turned it it wouldn't fire at all. Waite a few mins then it would do the same.
Checked the distributor/plugs. Fine with a strong spark. Plugs not sooty/oily but good condition and dry. Took air filter hose off and no change either. Suspected fuelling- could see fuel in the filter and it's present in the intake pipe but didn't investigate further due to the snow and it being past midnight so abandoned it and hiked back to the house.
What's my first point of investigation this morning? Will there be some kind of airlock if it's run out of fuel? Other ideas?
