I need to send €280 as a deposit for a holiday apartment in Spain. My bank (Nationwide) wants £20 for the transfer which seems a little steep. Western Union charge £2.90. I’m guessing this is legit, but having never used Western Union I was wondering if there’s any pitfalls to avoid?

    Cheers,

As I understand it it’s as safe as handing over the equivalent amount of cash and as traceable and as reversible too.

are you sending pounds to a GBP account? or is there currency exchange included as well? Transferwise is good – they have low fees and don’t pack the currency exchange with an additional percentage.

Cool. Transferwise is offering a much better rate than Western Union, thanks. It’s going to a Euros account, from my GBP account.

I used TransferWise last week for the first time when paying the deposit to BasqueMTB.

It seems to be a safe and cheap way of doing it and I had no issues

We use Transferwise for business. They are reasonably priced and sort any problems quickly. The phone app is useful too.

All sorted, seems like a pretty good service. Thanks for the tip!
