I’ve been asked to quote for some work for a dept of the Irish government. I’m based in the UK and pay tax here as a sole trader. The person I’m dealing with has asked that I have a Tax Clearance Certificate. No problem, I can apply online, except as a non-resident it seems I can’t. On the application page of the .ie website it says You should check your tax status with the Non-Residents Tax Clearance Unit before applying but the phone number listed doesn’t work and having tried several general switchboard numbers and been redirected a lot nobody has heard of them. No response to my email either. Anyone else had to deal with this?
I’d really like to get a grasp on any tax implications of doing this job. Its not a huge amount of money but I don’t want to get stung. Any advice appreciated. Also willing to pay for advice, is this likely to be something any local accountant would be able to handle or do I need to find a specialist?
