Looking at one with a steel band, “diver’s style”

Quite popular in the EDC community. Chunky, solid. Reasonably priced (around $150 off eBay).

Also look at Luminox and Lum-Tec. They make some amazing watches.

Yep, I’ve got the military style one with the black face. I changed the ‘webbing’ strap for a nice leather one though. Absolute bargain for £50-ish on the big A.

    Glass is incredibly scratchable.
Mine loses about 2 mins a day or so.
    Other than that, nice watch.

Mine kept perfect time for 6 months, now loses about a minute or so a week, I need to tinker with the regulator. You won’t get more for your money.

I have two, one dress watch and one divers.

Brilliant, keep great time (after some regulator fettling)

I have a 35 year old one , and last week I copied the idea on the following review ,
    http://wornandwound.com/2011/09/02/review-seiko-5-snzh53-diver-in-blue/

From A*zon for about 80 quid (more now) , Strap from Hirsch – getting on for half that. No batteries and it will still be working when I am not..
There is much more info on that site about the Seiko watches if you look in the articles section as well as reviews.

ANother to consider would be Orient, owned by Seiko but still making thier own in house movements.

I used to have one, it was great until the crappy metal bracelet broke and I lost it.

    Very good value too.

    What’s the service interval like?

Got mine from http://watchhubs.com – arrived quickly and seller handily marked item as gift with low value which saved import duties, which can be calculated here http://www.dutycalculator.com/

Well pleased with purchase cost £40 for watch cheapest I could get here £75.

Service interval – around 5 years or when the face gets scratched enough to get replaced probably up to 7 years, these are cheap watches so you need to think about the cost of replacement/service cost .
If it was a 1k + watch you would be thinking about servicing every 3 years to protect your investment – that is when it starts to mount up,
especially when you end up buying other watches to save the best one…

Bought one for a relly. It runs a bit slow and needs occasional correction but otherwise seems to work and look OK. I would not like this myself.

depending on how you “park” them you can make them adjust a bit overnight, on its side – slower – on its back faster .

I’ve got an ’84 with a 6309 movement that no longer works. Should I have the movement repaired, replaced with another 6309, or is there a newer automatic jeweled movement that has the same dimensions?
