  • Seatpost shims – good or bad idea?

Is using a seat post shim a good idea or not?

My XC bike has a 27.2mm seat post which currently has a Thomson post and SDG bel air saddle. I also need a seat post for my AM bike which has 30.6mm seat post. I can’t really afford another seat post and saddle (being a poor student :P)

Thought about getting a shim and using the same post and saddle for both bikes?

Its not a perfect solution but generally causes no issues

I like shims – they tend to dull out trail buzz
