Basically is it rideable from Winchester to Eastbourne? Have done it a few times in the summer, which was dry and toasty, but have an unnatural urge to head down there soon. Any local advice much appreciated. Thanks

Was on it yesterday around alfriston – totally rideable

On the plus side there are way less people (and other cyclists) and dogs at this time of year

BUT it is slippery with much less traction up and down than in the summer. You can’t really blatt along on the downhill sections and by the gates its mainly a quagmire

I’m doing the SDW in the summer but there’s no way you’d catch me doing it at the moment. Should be OK after a couple of weeks of dry weather but at the moment the bits around Brighton are full of soft, claggy mud that’s no fun to ride through.

There are a few really draggy sections near me, if it’s really bad it will destroy the rest of your ride, id give it a miss for now

Yes. Not great. Only needs a dry week though!

As suspected, thanks for the replies.
