Went to Cheddar with GF for a sunny afternoon ramble over the cliffs and a cream tea. Anyway, we decided to try this variant at Derricks Tea Room. My my it’s lovely, with the lemon cutting through the cream somewhat. Not so sickly as strawberry jam. Reckon I could eat about 10 like this.

[Makes mental note to buy some lemon curd at Tesco]

Lemon curd is lush, but with scones and cream ? = FAIL

the traditionalist would insist on strawberry jam and clotted cream, but if lemon curd works for you, why ever not

I’m no gourmet, but living out West too, I thought I knew my scones and would have agreed with the trailmonkey. So I was genuinely surprised by how lovely the result was. Give it a go!

Whyever not? Because it’s just WRONG!

Clotted cream on first, then a dab of jam.

Oh, and it’s pronounced with the -one as in “gone”, NOT as in “stone”.

    you’ve (s)gone up in my estimation cap’n !

It’s a serious issue I know, but quite a long time ago I said on here that scones were just a device for serving jam & cream. I was corrected – that’s ladies’ boobies I was thinking of (of course, I see it now – and I’m all the more keen to visit the west country)
