Building a Nomad with bits from old bike but only have Hope Minis. Was going to use on the Nomad but increase rotor size until I can afford some bigger brakes. Using for trail use plus intending to go to the Alps.

So am I mad to try this? Should I also get the pistons changed to avoid dreaded brake fade?

They will be fine, much better than dragging your feet… 🙂

I had Minis on my RFX initially. Fine for UK riding, but utter rubbish in the Alps. Got Saints now.

i had 180/ 160 hope minis on my kona bear, not light build
with the phenolic pistons they were outsanding
did experience some fade before i put the new pistons in but only in the alps!

Not so long back you'd have used rim brakes without worry

You'll just – intuitively – adjust your riding to suit what braking power you have
