    Hi,
Had a brief search for a thread reguarding seals on this caliper.
Can’t find it and wondering how it went and where to get the seals?
After 9 months of trouble free riding the front caliper has started honking again!
    Thanks,
    Max

There should be a 2 year warranty.

Had the same problem on an 8-9 month old bike. I didn’t want to be without it so stuck a Deore caliper on which was £25 including pads. Only commuted with it twice but seems to be working ok so far.

I’ve had three of these leak all over the pads & lose all power. Two had cracked pistons (be *very* gentle pushing them back, they crack against the calliper body).

I gave up & bought some of the new Hope RX4 Calipers. Front one squeals (rather than squeaks), but very powerful.

mrwalker, can I ask where you bought them from? Thinking of doing the same as can’t believe how crap the Shimano road calipers are!

Thought of doing a warranty but this is my third caliper through Warranty!
Can’t be arsed sending them back only to be the same after a few months!
Going to take matters into my own hands and see if I can find a seal or get some Hopes!
    Thanks,
    Max.

My XTRs have been fine for 14000km…

The road calliper aren’t radically different from the MTB ones, and there is cross compatibility between both.

The pistons should be pushed back with the pads in place otherwise you risk cracking them. Not sure that can be viewed as a fault?

I run xt calipers with my shimano drop levers. They have been perfect so far (touch wood)

I sold the rs785 calipers straight away.

Always run Hopes on my mtbs with no problem.
    First problematic brake.
Seems to be a common issue with these brakes leaking!
Rear has been trouble free but the front is always the problem!
Someone on hear has found some seals with some success.
    Can’t find post now!
    Thanks,
    Max

I started thread above re replacing the port seal. It is still working okay but I still occasionally have an issue with the rear caliper when I don’t use the bike for a week nor so. There is a slight deposit but they burns off and get full use of the brake thereafter.

I was in my local shop and saw the Hope caliper, probably worth considering instead of persevering with the Shimano one.

This blog seemed quite comprehensive, although just repeating what Spangels already knew 😉
