I’m off to Centre Parks near Penrith soon and am looking for some cheeky trail time. Does anyone have any recommended routes near this destination, other than say Whinlatter?

Others must have been in this situation before, so please let me have your route recommendations.

    Thanks STW

High Cup Nick out and back? Spectacular scenery, good riding.

Don’t know how long you’re going to get, but the Pennine Bridleway heads south from Kirby Stephen area, and you could in theory ride from there to Dent and get the train back.

The lake district. The quickest bit of singletrack might be the Ullswater singletrack. Drive or cycle to Pooley Bridge, cycle up the hill to the Moor gate, keep cycling till you come to a stone circle, this is the cockpit, turn right, go weeeeeeeee, this is the singletrack. Get to the end then come back to Pooley Bridge by road.
    Or more fun.
Drive or cycle to Glenridding then cycle up Helvellyn up keppel Cove, get to top, pick your route down, don’t pick dollywaggon if you’re on a hardtail.
If you want something a lot more sedate and route marked the C2C runs through penrith.
    Have fun.

Actually check a map first the turn off for the singletrack might be a bit further past cockpit. You can also get onto the Roman road high street from there but at this time of year it’ll be a horrific boggy mess up there.

From what I understand, if you’re taking your bike with you and keeping it in Centre Parks, make sure you have good insurance. It won’t be with you for very long 😉

The run up Hartside via the c2c route & back same way would be a good quiet road for an hour or so.

Cross Fell S-N using the access Road up to radar station was an adventure from memory… (in 1990)

Askham fell, accessed from Lowther caravan site, (Eamont bridge) is a regular local ride, you could ride from whinfell from the southern cliburn to brougham road,do not ride on the A66, its a death trap.

Askham fell, (moor divock) is near to pooley bridge and is probably best known for the descent towards how town, and then the Ullswater single track, return loop from Boredale hause, any of the bridleways on the 150.000 scale maps are ok, but avoid the highstreet Roman road, its a bog this time of year. enjoy.

Make sure you lock your bikes up or keep them in the lodges, i know one of the guys on security and theft is a major problem…
