Thought I was going to Sheffield this weekend, but I'm informed Aston-cum-Aughton is actually in Rotherham.

Anyone fancy showing me the local xc this Saturday?

and all other times of the year

Rotherham is good for racing motability scooters, they seem to be standard issue for residents

    ok local rides…

peaks is a short drive away – can recommend some dryish rides there for you
you've got Sherwood pines (also a bit boggy)
from Aston, the Rotherham bways aren't great. Need local knowledge really

    hi aston local here
not much in the way of good local off road tracks its all footpaths/farmtracks leading to the country park. its possible to ride to sherwood pines 90% offroad its about 25 miles each way plus a couple of laps round the kitchener trails makes a good big day out ride. not free this weekend but will be doing this ride a couple of times a month until september in prep for kielder 100 so if your ever back up this way give us shout

Your best bet would be trying to get to the Peaks (30-40 mins) by car

    Well worth the drive

i'd second andy w. also make sure you're bike isn't advertised round rotherham. i work at a school there and know some of the kids are involved with knicking bikes. they're very organised and go round in vans and basically go shopping.
looking on the map aston is south of sheffield next the m1. if you want a big day the head to the peaks or do the ride to sherwood (i don't know it). or if you want to get some technical stuff under your belt and earning your downs i'd hop back on the m1 go up to j35 and turn left, follow the road back into sheffield and then turn right when you see a sign for grenoside. up to the top of greno and that's the top of wharncliffe woods. wharncliffe on the lower side of the road and greno woods go up from the road.
    have fun.

That's the idea. I just don't know where I'm going.
