I need to get some brakes for a road bike.

I've seen them measured in drop so how to do size them for road bikes?

Is it the distance from the pivot to centre of the braking surface?

    Thanks for any help

    Cheers

If it's a new bike without eyes they'll almost certainly be shallow drop.
If it has eyes etc they could be deep 59mm I think it is.
    What's the frame.

with or without eyes…..wtf are you on about?

    It's a steel Raleigh Equipe

Is it worth waiting till I get the wheels built and measure them or could I use the old brakes and measure them as they won't be a million miles away

    Cheers

he means mudguard eyes. your existing brakes should be fine to measure.

    Cheers guys 😀

I've removed the mudguard eyes to tidy things up a bit prior to powder coating

I'll get the old ones out of the sh!te for the bin box and get them measured

Get with the program dude 😉

Looks like you'll need 57mm. You'll get some Shimano 450/650's or Tektros with dual pivot. The only other thing is are the frame mounting bolts recessed or not.
Those Equipes ran for a long time.

Right ya cheeky fecker. I've measured the old brakes and they're 50mmish from the centre of the frame bolt to the centre line of the pad.

So I'm going to look for those as I'm guessing they won't be far out

I think the standard ones are 49mm
