I know this is a mountain bike forum, but please be patient.

Today I pumped up my tyres and blew the lip off my rim. I’ve had the wheels for ages and they had developed quite a significant “braking groove”.

So anyway I need a new, cheap, road wheelset. I had Mavic Aksiums and have had no reason to complain. Are they still decent wheels for the price, or should I be looking at something else?

    Thanks.

Handbuilt if you can afford it.

Planet X model B’s are supposed to be about as good as it comes for cheap, off the shelf wheelsets though.

Merlin Cycles were recently selling lots of different Shimano models off for 50% off recently, the RS20’s looked like a hot choice for relatively light weight still with an aero rim.
