    Just spent ages prying a cassette off the freehub on my DH bike – had dug itself inro the alloy freehub and wedged solid.

    Are there not-crazy-money road freehubs with alloy carriers or are they all liek that for size reasons?

    If it’s a Hope hub you can get a replacement steel free hub which is (supposedly!) much tougher.

    Road cassettes?

    Shimano 105 had an alloy carrier on the top 3 or 4 sprockets. I think Ultegra has one or two more on the alloy carrier.

    Much like Shimano XT and SLX.
