I’m fitting some old Shimano 600 dual pivot calipers to a new winter bike frame/forks, but the bolt on the caliper isn’t long enough to reach right though the fork crown.

Is it possible to get longer sunken Allen head nuts to make it reach? What should I be looking for?

    Thanks!

Yes it is, and a longer sunken allen head nut.

I’ve got loads, but they’re as cheap as chips anyway just get a few.

Which winter hack did you get?

The pivot bolt comes in three lengths and they are all supplied in the retail box

    Nuts…
    10.5mm Y 855-75110
    12.5mm Y 855-75020
    18.0mm Y 855-74010

    Bolts.
    50.7mm Y 83J-98030

Any Shimano retailer should be able to get these for you, or post on the WTDs for someone who has spare….

Yes, you can buy extended nuts, they’re quite common as many carbon forks need them. Your lbs will have them or if not you’ll be looking for something like these –

Now this is anal. I keep a few because they tend to go tatty with all the muck coming up from the front wheel. So now and again I change them for new shiny ones.

    Thanks guys! Amazingly helpful!!! :o)

Old Git, I went for this… A Dolan Preffisio. They were selling them on Ebay for 69 quid! Miles nicer than the Dribble to look at, and I’m really impressed with the finish. Proper painted decals, none of the peely vinyl you might expect on such a cheap frame.

Went for their basic carbon winter fork too for another 80 quid…

£69! And it’s going to do the job just fine.

did the same and built this up last week, still getting it dialled in,
    hence the long fork steerer/spacers.
for £80 posted the frame is a bargain, very impressed

Ooh, you got the glossy one. I went stealth matt black!

Looks spot on that, does it ride well?

Absolute steal for the money, one of the benefits of not riding medium-sized frames! 🙂

You’re not trying to fit the back brake to the front are you? The back has a shorter bolt/nut. (I know this because a “friend” was once stoopid enough to try this)…..

yeah it seems to ride nice,
not as harsh as my old frame,
its a racy geometry with a very short headtube,
    but it feels comfortable.

i was really lucky and i managed to snap up a 54cm frame on ebay.
    the matt looks nice

No, I’m just transplanting from a skinny steel frame with 1″ steerer to some carbon forks with a big fat crown.

Off to the LBS this morning to try and get a longer nut… 🙂

There are also 27mm (part number 8A0 2300) and 32mm (part number 8A0 2330) but these are not commonly used.
