Totally naive question, but it’s not something I’ve never done before. What do I use to rip CDs to my PC so I can play them from my laptop (which doesn’t have a CD drive)?

Yes it is CDs I own and I don’t intend passing the tracks on to anybody else or sharing them (and I really can’t be bothered with any stupid laws which might say I’m not allowed to put music I own on a computer I own for my own use).

MS Media Player does a nice neat job of it. Set it to rip automatically on inserting CD. It will find album art and details automatically for you. I usually just let it do it’s thang at 128kbps in *.wmv

Works across my Android/MS units no problems.

If you don’t own an iPod then don’t use iTunes – I don’t know what it’s like on MacOS but on Windows it’s an infuriating and unreliable pile of junk.

For all that you need to do, I’d say MS media player, pretty intuitive and straight forward to use as well.
