This is probably a dumb question…

I've just ordered a new set of wheels for my Surly. I'm currently running a set of Rhyno Lites with discs which I am going to transfer to another bike.

They are quoted as being suitable for V brakes and have suitably vertical sidewalls, but no machined braking surface. Does this mean I can still run them with V brakes?

    yup.

Used to use them with v's a while ago

IIRC I think they may have quite a "shallow" braking surface so careful set-up might be important

OK -so presumably the paint on the rims just wears off and there is a braking surface underneath?

I thought all Rhyno Lites had 'machined' braking surfaces but I might be wrong. BTW, back in the day brake blocks did all the machining so it's not really an issue.

Not mine…definitely painted. Having checked more closely, it does look like there is a braking surface underneath. Just trying to avoid additional cost of getting discs for the other bike which is mainly going to be used over the summer. Cheers all…
