Staying there in a couple of weeks for a weekend. I seem to remember struggling for decent places a few years ago. Any recent recommendations or should we just stock up at booths and DIY?

Snooty Fox in KL did good food a few years back when I last ate there

The Sun is fantastic – I’m from Kirkby Lonsdale and it’s the best place in town IMO. I had some of the best lamb I’ve ever eaten there recently. Check out the reviews on Trip Adviser etc. They even had Singletrack Ale from the local brewery on last time I was in there!

Avanti does nice pizzas. Orange Tree for decent burgers and steaks.

Out of town The Highwayman and the Lunesdale Arms are both good. Hipping Hall if you want super-posh.

Food in Platos is excellent, and Avanti is great too.

Been a while since we ate there but S restaurant was lovely – Mrs NBT declared it the best Fish Pie she’s ever had

Nae bother. Plato’s is pretty decent too IME. Avanti is normally the liveliest place for beers etc – lovely beer garden/yard but I guess it’s not the weather for it.

+1 for the Sun, even allows dogs. KL is a great place to stop off on the way back from the Lakes for Sunday lunch, just carry straight on instead of turning right to join the M6.

Go posh and eat at Hipping Hall: it’s superb.

seafood specialist, it was on main street.

I’m guessing it’s closed, street view shows “the bay tree” there now

Aha – no I think it is a restaurant now. I used to work in the Bay Tree when I was at school and it changed hands a good while ago. 🙂

Did you see the transformation in the Market square the other week Grum? Pretty cool. Must have cost a fortune just for the clean up.

Anyone know if the Plough at Lupton is any good?

Can recommend Avanti, was in there with 2 other families a couple of weeks ago, 6 adults and 6 kids, quick service, well priced and good food, some real ales as well, bar down stairs look nice but no place for kids!.

I had the tasting menu there a few weeks ago – I really enjoyed it but I must admit to being a teensy bit disappointed.

Yeah I did – definitely looked expensive – even just the 24h security must have cost a load.

I used to live next door to that as well. 🙂

Used to be quite grotty but had new management/makeover a bit ago and they’ve swanked/gastropubbed it up. Supposed to be nice but seemed a tiny bit soulless to me. Not eaten there though.

I really rated The Plough at Lupton when we ate there, although that was about a year ago, and my recent experiences of pub dining suggests that a lot can change in a month, let alone a year.

The food was great, and it’s nicely done out. There’s also plenty of space between the tables, so you get a bit more of your own environment.

Looks like we are staying a mile up a lane from The Highwayman @ Burrow (http://www.highwaymaninn.co.uk) so it would be rude not to check that out too.

    TripAdvisor reviews look OK

That’s a pity. I thought it stood comparison with several Michelin starred places I’ve eaten in. I think Northcote just has the edge for food, but I preferred the location and the room at Hipping Hall.

There’s an Italian in Ingleton that’s pretty good. It’s a little place next to the Coop, you can’t book tables but it’s worth trying

It was a good weekend, but due to the disorganisedness of the friends we were staying with, we only ended up going to the highway man. It’s a nice Thwait’s pub and the food was very nice – especially the black pea hummus with morcambe bay shrimps!

Singletrack Flowy Ale on tap at The Orange Tree and if you are lucky the new dark ale Singletrack Black should be ready by then too. They are joining our Premier club this week to so flash your Premier credentials while you are there too 🙂
