Need to replace the rear gear cable, well the outer part anyway. It got a bit gashed in a fall. On CRC they only have a SRAM pair for 25 GBP or the Flak Jacket for 30 GBP. What would you suggest as my best option, either just the rear outer, or the whole set, but for less than 25 (eeek!)

Unless I’m misreading the post, sram x9 takes standard inner and outers, ny old gear cable set will do (provided the outer legnth is right). On my x9 I’ve used clarks and shimano.. all good.

Thanks. Yes, yes, it’s an X9 (2008). Not sure why I wrote 9.0 – must be pressure of work.

Cyclebasket.co.uk are incredibly cheap for cables, outers, cable ends etc. Sadly though their very high flat rate post makes them unusable unlesss you are putting in a huge order for other stuff.
