Nothing too stuffy. Preferably Chinese, Indian or Italian restaurants central to the city centre.

Any good pubs for folk in their late 30's also appreciated!

The OX always smells of puke to me. Nice food though.

I've found The OX's food to be of variable quality recently – the same menu items coming out tasting completely different one week to the next…
Nice place though otherwise, although the staff always seem maybe a bit hungover or suchlike on a Sunday when i've been in.

Indian – East Z East and Akbars are also worth a visit.

Chinese – Yang Sing or Pacific (but I haven't been to either for a while)

Check out Manchester Confidential for reviews and offers for restaurants in town.

The chop houses are good pubs with good food.

Re Yang Sing – my parents went recently and thought that it's gone downhill – poor service and very high prices.

ransos- could be something to do with them having to fold their city centre hotel development recently I guess.

Another vote for the chop houses (beer and food), and the Ox and Shimla Pinks…

For a proper pub, it's hard to beat Briton's Protection.

Dmitri's (greek tapas) is good for food too.

The Armenian joint near the Town Hall is ace if you like meat and waiters with facial hair.

I'm still looking for a decent Jamaican and vegetarian place as well.

This and That for lunchtime curries.

This and That for lunchtime curries.

Too far away for me now. Plus you wont see binners for a week. Hes been detained by the Police after being identified as a political activist.

Sams Chophouse always seems to be very busy with a great atmosphere.

Not in the city centre but the Lime Tree out Disbury is good for a nice
    evening meal

Top notch food, not stuffy or too pricy

+1 for the Pacific. Chinese downstairs, Thai upstairs, they do a great thai buffet at lunch time.

Hora: seek out the bhuddist center there is a good vegetarian restaurant there.

East Z East and Akbars are my favorite indians
Bem Brasil is the one TeeTooSugars means, and it's great if you're in a group.

pub/bar wise, there are a few good one's up in the 'northern quarter' Trof, TV21 & Odd Bar.

San Carlo is very expensive and flash. I hate it. Cafe Istanbul is excellent. The Koreana on King Street West is good for something different. It does fab lunchtime takeaways.

The Armenian Harry refers to does good food and its atmosphere is very down to earth, the complete opposite of san Carlo.

Wasn't really impressed with the food last time I ate at Sam's but it may just have been my choices.

El Rincon used be very good but I have heard one or two bad comments about it lately. There is a wine shop/tapas bar on the opposite side of Deansgate that is supposed to be better.

Still haven't tried Bem Brazil despite working next door to it.
