To watch with the missus through the cold winter months

We have seen all the 24s, not interested in Lost or Prison Break, we have just finished Doc Martin, I was thinking of getting Vincent but that has just started showing on ITV3 so I can watch that for free instead now.

Someone has recommended The Wire, is that anygood, or are there others I should be spending my hard earned cash on?

Generation Kill. Gritty, funny and well done.

For something a little lighter… Black Books (if you can find it).

I've got spaced, black books etc, I like comedy shows but the missus is more into drama type things if you know what I mean,

If it were up to me we would be watching blackadder on a continuous loop but she wouldn't have it

The Wire is absolutely brilliant, the best box set I've watched yet.

It'll take a few episodes to really get into it, but stick with it!

Dexter is great, Sopranos was brilliant. Band of Brothers.

I am going to invest in the Wire or the Shield.

Featuring Wild Bill Hickock, "Calamity" Jane Cannary and other less famous characters.
Iain McShane's defining career role as the magnificent saloon-owner and central crime lord "Al Swearengen". It's a big set of 36 episodes which I have still not tired of watching.

If and when the Beeb release them, you might try their latest adaptation of Jane Austin's "Emma" if you're looking for a more romantic entertainment for the better half. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I think that it's far superior to the film version that had Gwyneth Paltrow in the lead…

I can't believe no-one's mentioned The Shield…

Is twin peaks really old? I have vague memories of watching that baout 10 years ago I think, but my memory of that time is a bit "hazy" to say the least

Saw a Ronnie Barker box set in HMV the other day – includes stuff like Porridge, Open All Hours, Clarence etc etc

My GF's Grandad IS "not literally" Captain Mainwaring which just adds to the humour

The interesting thing about band of brothers is that it is not fiction. The interviews with the actual soldiers brings a tear to your eye. Great viewing.
