The Wire, no contest.

I must get round to finding Series 2 of Twin Peaks on DVD (still not released in this country, iirc).

Oh, I forgot- Oz. I remember when I started hearing how good the Wire was, people said "It's amazing, best TV show in ages- it's almost as good as Oz" Lost it a bit in the later series as it started to just get outlandish and a bit silly, but the first 2 are as good as it gets.

It's on the gold box set. It says region4 on the box, but plays in region2 also.

Got the full set of Sopranos for sale if anyone's interested, still haven't got round to putting it on ebay...

Oh yeah, make that +1,000,000 for the Sopranos, loved it! Sustained us through a very long time of avoiding the horror that is French TV...

NCIS - got handed the first series to watch when our daughter was born...so we dutifully watched it...and got hooked...

Ivor the Engine; Mr Benn and Bagpuss - all very watchable...

A-Team boxset; James Bond boxset and The Pink Panther boxset (the Peter Sellers originals).

I'm of the opinion that Americans can't do either comedy or drama. As such, I'll be mostly recommending this.
Fourteen quid? Quality.

andyP - they cant do comedy that good, but only mp can

4 or so years ago, six feet under, sopranos, west wing, in fact all hbo were fantastic quality dramas

unfortunatley, american tv is so marketing led that all the shows are now sh1t, shallow and only have beautiful stereotypical characters stacked full of product placement, marketing links, as for all the adverts over the top.
of the curreny crop of american stuff, dexter, parks and recreations and the middlemen stand out.

other boxsets

planet earth
lost land of the jaguar/volcano
blue planet
modern toss

got the wire and greenwing ready to go once the trails turn to mud (hopefully feb )

Don't think it's a box set, yet, but 'The Thick Of It' series 1+2, & 'In The Loop' (to a lesser extent) are brilliant.

I'm with AndyP on this. I've tried watching some of the series suggested here in the past and have just found it such terrible gash I've given up quickly. The west wing and the wire in particular were pants. Yanks seem a bit better at sci fi and I thought the first series of heroes was good. Firefly too.

The only exception I'd say is Sopranos so, how much do you want stevomcd?

another +1 for The Wire and also Band of Brothers.

This site needs some sort of poll system we can all vote on, as seen on other forums.

Im surprised Mad Men hasn't been mentioned yet. It's such an under-rated series. I think it suffers from being difficult to pick up if you've not watched from the start and not really having an overarching 'point'. It has a record number of emmy nominations though.

the wire is good, I prefer dead wood and carnivale but there are only two series of each I think. Deadwood is my favourite

I'm currently enjoying

Pushing Daisies- slick dialogue is a bit strange at times, touching dead folk.
Benidorm - its funny cos its true.

I have enjoyed

Red Dwarf, just the shows
them motorbike things with Ewan McGregor and Charlie whats his face..

Mods can someone please ban Samuri for describing The Wire as gash 😛

It may have taken a little while to get into but it's so far from gash that I feel a banning is suitable 🙂

Yes, The Wire is really good. Worth getting the all series boxset I'd say.

Speaking of all series boxsets got Battlestar Galactica the other week it was ace!

Also +1 for

Firefly
Generation Kill
The Shield

Has anybody mentioned Dollhouse yet (did I fall asleep?).

Also kinda liked the remake of Bionic Woman... 😳

(EDIT: Lets not forget Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy & Smileys People!)

Band of Brothers
Oz- best prison drama ever made
the West Wing if you like your drama a bit smartarsed. It's fantastic IMO but I understand why some don't like it
The Thick Of It
Firefly... You don't need to like scifi to like Firefly
Possibly the new Battlestar Galactica but it's a bit, eh... messy.
Six Feet Under if you fancy something so slow burning it might appear to have gone out completely.
