  • recommend me some… insoles

I’ve got a problem with just my left foot where if I’m cycling hard for more than an hour it gets really painful. No problem with the right foot and no problem if I’m just cruising along (or rather it takes a lot longer to become painful). I don’t think it is down to the make of shoes as it happens with both my Sidis and Shimano shoes and I don’t think the shoes are too tight as I went up a size and it made little difference to the problem.

Moving the cleats around has helped quite a but there doesn’t seem to be much more to be gained there so next up I thought I might try some insoles as the sidi insoles especially are quite thin.

Any recommendations of stuff that has worked, stuff to avoid?

    thanks

Someone will probably recommend superfeet insoles, but these are a thousand times better.

    Cheap. Specialized BG
    Expensive but worth it. Sidas.

MSP – the response looks very nice. Have you compared it to any of the others or only tried the response?

I’ll go and hunt out the Sidas now

I have tried all those suggested, spesh bg, superfeet, sidas and of course the sole softec. Superfeet are just bad, spesh are fine and would be my 2nd choice of the lot, the sidas cost me a fortune fitted by a specialised and never felt right, the softec ones just work (but be careful when putting them in the oven to warm up for moulding, to use fahrenheit and not celcius 😳 )

That’s brilliant thanks, I’ll give that a try. If they don’t work I’ve found some Sidas dealers locally as well
    Thanks all

I’ve got the Specialized ones, I spent a reasonable chunk on getting some SuperFeet moulded and found them not good at all, they made a right pigs ear of my pedalling action and gave me knee pain.

Similar to the Specialized ones are the Giro Supernatural insoles that have a replaceable/adjustable arch support, very useful if you’re experimenting to find out what works for you.

Spesh ones are good, worth a punt for £20 or so.

Interesting. Might try and find those as well.

The superfeet stuff is interesting. The reviews seem very hit or miss on them. Might give those a miss unless I get stuck

quick update on this for those that are interested-
short version – got the sole footbeds recommended by MSP and PMK2060 and love them and the company are great

    longer version:
Went for the sole footbeds as I liked the option of heat moulding them to get a better fit. The come with a snazzy little dot on them that turns black when at the right temp in the oven to prevent you melting them I guess. My problem was that I am an EU size 46 for which they recommend you go up to UK size 11.

Arrived, cut to size, moulded and they fitted and worked but were clearly a bit too big. I’m guessing that my 46s are a little too large as well then. But they worked and helped my feet although not perfect and given the original postage was 15eur I didn’t fancy having to pay that a couple more times given that I wasn’t sure they would work any better.

1 month later they email a customer satisfaction survey, I fill it in saying happy etc. but maybe a little large. A real person actually reads survey and emails back ‘remember we do a 90 day exchange’. I decide to go for it and they just mail me the new size, nothing sent back 🙂

New ones fit brilliantly, right size and comfy.
Very happy man and it’s great to see someone actually cares about whether their product works

Not tried the others but I really thought my super feet insoles worked brilliantly, though I’d advise buying from a bricks & mortar shop with a knowledgable fitter initially to get the correct model to fit you feet, as its not just a case of buying the right size

Anyone tried the Spesh show wedges (varus/vulgas)? Ordered some, but no instructions & don’t appear to be any on he web either.

I’ve been using green superfeet which I got from a ski boot fitter in ski boots. Tried them in my biking and running shoes and seem to be pretty good. My feet certainly feel more supported. Think the green one is a bit too much of a high arch for biking though, going to try the blue.

From what I remember of the Specialized wedges, varus are for use if you wear down the outside edge of your shoe heel (slightly bow-legged), valgus are if you’re slightly knock kneed (I’d assume you wear the inside edge of your shoe heel but I’m varus so don’t know).

    Stu.

<edit> should add I’ve used the Spesh BG insoles in biking shoes and found them good. They were rubbish in my running shoes though. Didn’t feel like they had any cushioning. As they’re meant to move you slightly varus (in my case) I suppose they don’t compress much. Be happy to be corrected if somebody knows better though.
