Recommend me some everyday all-round SPD compatible shoes please

Dear STW massive

Could you please fix it for me to find a pair of SPD shoes that will be comfy enough to be used for the daily commute and general quick-blat-down-the-pub duties. Casual-ish - well they're not going to be required for full on 'proper' muddy riding. But I don't want a pair of roady looking shoes. As you look like a **** darn the pab! Trainer-ish really. I've always used 661's in the past but the new ones look a bit....erm...well...

I'm liking the look of

Anyone tried them? What's the sizing like?

Your recommendations please oh wise ones

When Mrs S and I did that pompino trip, I lived in a pair of those on the left, but I dont remember the number and they dont make them any more.

The Vans warner looks OK, but apparently it's a terrible shoe.

Stoner - They look just the ticket, but I've had Shimano's in the past and found them really narrow for my neanderthal-feet. How do they compare to other shoes in your opinion?

Anybody tried the Lakes? Any opinions?

For disco slippers I always ride spesh BG shoes, they are good for the wider foot. The shimano's can be a bit narrower than spesh I suppose, but after 5000km its not noticeable as after a little wearing the upper will form to your foot.

never had lakes. Have some northwave boots that also come out a bit narrower than spesh.

I've got some of these dhb shoes:

They're comfortable and they work. Very plain as well which is what I was after.

Not tried the Lakes.

I use them for short commutes on the Brompton - good to walk in as they are quite bendy and cheap - though you have the watch the laces for getting caught in stuff

had a pair for 2 years and still ok

shimano mt51, fab shoe, though I think with all these kind of shoes they are quite stiff to walk in and after a lot of bike use they look very "dusty".

I'm looking at these for my next pair:

High and Low top versions
I currently have Northwave Gran Canions which are almost totally trashed after 2 years great service. The Polaris boots are the nearest replacement and as high top SPD shoes are normally dropped from the range after the first year, I may buy a few pairs!

Thanks very much for the suggestions folks. The Northwaves are looking odds on favourites I reckon. Exactly what I'm after. I've had Northwave's in the past and liked them

Binners - sizing is "normal" in the Rockers (can't say about other NW shoes cos I've never had any others). I'm 43 in Shimano (size up from normal), NWs are a 42 and there's plenty of room.
