I am building a workhorse winter bike, cranks will be some 10 speed hollow2 shimano cranks, coupled with probaly a
Gusset 1-ER Single Speed Conversion Kit from crc

looked at this kmc chain ??? any good ?

oh about gearing would 53-14 be good ??? -mostly cityriding, and some rides for 15-20km …

Depends on you knees but that sounds hi gearing

Are supposed to be good, not tried, but its what i’ll be getting next, 1 1/8th though. Stay away from SRAM PC01 though, shitty stretch-tastic things

53 14 would be good if you’re going downhill..

I am learning this. Only done a couple of hundred miles on this chain, was just tight enough (without a tensioner) on a 32/15t combo, but already worn sufficiently to be a good bit slacker and start crunching occasionally. Won’t be buying another. Cheapo Taya 7/8 speed one out of Halfrods was better, lasted longer.

Is there a consensus on the ‘best’ SS chain?

I use 48-19 and it’s more than enough! Borderline easy on flat stuff, but that’s best for singlespeeding.

I use normal KMC 8speed chains, 9s at the moment as thats what was lying arround.

70″ is where it’s at.

SRAM – good for impressing gearies. They think it’s your massive thighs that’s ripping the chain apart. But don’t use it if you want to go anywhere. (But they may have improved it since I last bought a SRAM a few years ago 🙂 )

KMC’s are good. That’s mucho gearing though. Chapeau!
