I am looking for a bike, souly for playing in the woods and a bit of downhilling and trail centres.

It must be a hardtail as I cannot get on with full suspension, and it needs to be able to take a 6″ fork.

And not too expensive, no carbon or titanium.

So come on what do you reccomend?

Not sure about a 6″ fork but i was seriously eyeing up the play / jump bikes in Decathlon today. £200 gets you a whole lot of bike from a cheap shop

Yep BFe sounds good for that! I really like mine, could do with being a bit longer for climbing/longer rides though but as a fun bike it’s perfect 🙂

I think the main 3 are going to be Dialled Alpine, Cotic BFe and Evil Sovereign

I was going to suggest the Bfe too!

Just built one up and had debut ride on Boxing Day. Climbing was painful with the 50mm stem and 777mm bars, but on the (short local) descents it felt incredible. Amazingly confident handling and just made me smile.

Bit heavy for pure XC, but for your requirements it might be perfect.

777mm bars! That must be full on (in a good way).

To the OP I was gonna say Bfe too; a) it makes sense, and b) I have one so I have to go around the world promoting them according to the unwritten rules of internet forums.

456 is my recommendation, in that case! It’ll take up to a 160mm fork, and you could even get the summer slacker for a DH bike head angle (it was actually conceived to give a nice head angle with a 100mm fork, but people put even longer ones on there instead)

NB – This one isn’t mine, but it’s more of a play-bike build than mine 😉

something with short chainstays so a bfe, chameleon, trailstar etc.

Also, get rid of the 6 inch forks and put some 4 inch forks on it.

That black BFe is teh sex!

I ended up with a 456 for exactly what you describe. From dead flat tech single track to up and downy couple of hour jaunts to pinning it like a nutter it all works pretty well.
