I need a bike to commute the 6 mile round trip for my new job and college

I'm having to take out "buy now pay later credit" and am currently looking at the Charge Plug (Racer or Freestyler, based on look alone). Any other suggestions before i sign my life away? (and my tip gets nothing but garbage in *boom boom*, and i want to take advantage of the wifes good mood to get a new bike of sorts)

If its just a commuter bike for 6 miles, i'd be looking on Gumtree etc. for a cheap old road bike…

Get something with a rack or at least mounts for one. Is it something you are going to ride for pleasure too or purely for commuting?
