I was looking at getting a Pompino for winter.
I am not sure If i am cut out for the singlespeed lark, but want to try it, with the option to convert it to an alfine set up in the future.

So I need a 135mm spaced rear end? Yea? Old pompino's are 135 and new ones are 120?

On-one are sold out of proper sized 135mm spaced frames.

So there we are, can you recommend an alternative drop bar road bike frame that will take up to 32c tires, mud guards, racks and is single speed to start off with.

Other options I have come up with is the specialized tricross single, but thats about it.

Spesh Tricross SS? Not sure if it could be converted but a friend has just got the comp (geared) and it's lovely.

I have a Pompino and have ridden it over the Berwyns and through Snowdonia and regularly commute 40 miles a day on it, mines 120mm but I don't think I'd bother converting it even if I could, will probably buy a geared road bike at some point but not in a major rush.

    on one -linconshire poacher
surly do some, the crosscheck looks nice but others might do.
    Charge might do one
    Genesis might do some
    Cotic road rat
    Specialised Langster

No guaranteeing any of theses will be what you want but they are good starts.

Giant Bowery is a bargain and very understated. 17lbs and very fast, very nimble- lighter than a Pompino and so easier to pedal up hills.

I just got an old road bike (in this case, MY old road bike) and messed around with it. Cost me about 50 quid on top of whatever my folks paid for it in the mid-80s.

Might be lighter but can the Bowery take guards and a rack?
