Usually buy a few malts around Christmas time as gifts / personal consumption. Seen a few single grains getting recommended these days, has anyone tried this type of whisky? Apparently it’s generally lighter? – I’m not a man who appreciates a gentle-tasting malt, it has to be said, but it would be good to try something new. Any recommendations?

i thought cameron brig was the only single grain?

if you fancy something differentthis is a bit a bit ot, but i’d recommend Quinta Ruban from Glenmorangie – single malt but spends some time in port wood casks. clicky – never tried it with water though

Cameron Brig is the only one I’ve tried. It was a long time ago and wasn’t marketed as a specialist whisky. No age on the bottle. Not recommended, very light and in no way smooth.

I’ve no doubt it’s now had a makeover.

Grains lads, nae malts. Although a recommendation for Ardbeg is never wrong on any thread 🙂

There’s a handful available herefrom around 8 distileries. Might try the North British 97 – Gorgie’s finest for 20 quid.

Why not Hedonism, great name! Kinda like a cheap aftershave or maybe an HTC android phone.

try getting hold of a bottle of snow grouse. yes its grouse but it features a larger than normal amount of a certain edinburger grain.

if you want serious grain then join the scottish malt whisky society – i have a bottle of 30yr old from a recently closed glasgow distillery.

NBD is an awesome grain – amazing how somewhere that makes >60 million litres of alcohol a year can attract a premium. They are just giving away a 50yr old single to all there staff to celebrate 125yrs production…try getting hold of one of them!
