After proving to myself that cheap headsets last a few months with me I went to spend a bit of dosh on more expensive headsets.

One of my bikes has an Orbit Extreme Pro (got it free after I destroyed an On One Smoothie a few years back (cheers Brant)) and the other has a Chris King. Orbit headset is still going strong (sold the frame but know the lad who now owns it) as is the CK, now in its 4th year.

    Both have been splendid.

orbit Extreme Pro’s can be had cheap some times. I bought 2 from On One a couple of years ago (as spares) for £10 each. used the bearings from one in a frame I got last year that has integrated bearings and still have one spare(not for sale)

FSA Orbit Extreme Pro is where the smart money is. 10 year warranty (like a King), £90rrp (almost like a King), but can be had for less than £30 if you shop around…

I won’t buy anything else now, and that includes King…

I know they’re expensive, although less so from aspire velotech, but Chris king headsets are fantastic. Have one on my commuter, been on there for 4 years, ridden 6000 miles a year in all weathers, haven’t touched it and it’s still super smooth.

+1 for Cane Creek here, bought a used S3 off here 3 years ago still silky smooth. There’s an S1 on CRC for £12.00 (reduced from £34.00) btw…

across headsets are brilliant, well worth a look, and not bad value either
