Hit a bit of a brick wall with my Micro Vascular Heart disease and the Angina that goes with it. Consultant has run out of drug options and is sending me to the pain management clinic.

Thing is I have deteriorated quite a lot in 2 years and the Consultant is very “careful” about discussing the worst/best case sneario over the next few years. The long and short is i have to plan lots of stuff around pensions, family, business etc. Not looking for a crystal ball just a view of the implications of this thing getting a lot worse

Ask the consultant? Check with self help groups? 2nd opinion?

Have a word with Ton off here, he had a different problem but got sorted after seeing a different consultant ( I think)

Some info on the BHF page here https://www.bhf.org.uk/heart-matters-magazine/medical/all-about-microvascular-angina

Have you gone through diet, exercise, not smoking, reducing weight, diabetes etc?? You may well be able to get some help from BHF, talk it through with a specialist cardiac nurse maybe…

Done all the stuff required in respect to health and diet, exercise is a non starter as even a flight of stairs kicks off Angina.

I may have to speak to another consultant? It’s the rate of deterioration that’s frightening the shite out of me. In two years I have gone from 25 miles on the bike 2 to 3 times a week to not allowing my heart rate to exceed 110 bpm and if I get a bad angina attack it will last an hour and I will be in poor shape for 2 to 3 weeks.

I am on all drugs available at maximum (consultant) dosages including a drug that lowers your heart rate (not a beta blocker) below 50bpm.

It starting to impact on my ability to work.

sounds like time for a second opinion so you are sure your consultant is giving you the best treatment.

Its not my field of knowledge at all but something does not sound right to me
