flat battery, so changed the little watch battery inside the fob. now the red light flashes on when i press the button, so i know its got power, but the doors dont open. i have to physically turn the key in the lock.

it was suggested to me that i need to program the key after a battery change. sort of rings a bell where you turn it 3 times to the right or something like that.

anyone care to enlighten me? 🙂

My Leon one was fine. Even had battery out for half hour while I went to buy a new one.

There is some thing where you put it in ignition turn 3 times and do something to resync it, but I don't recall the procedure, nor did I need to use it.

I had the same issue with my Mondeo which required the key to be turned 7 times and then turned off after the beeps stopped, I'm guessing Google is your friend to find the right sequence.

A friend had the same with his Mondeo and the Ford garage charged him £70 and then 're-programmed' his key, lucky for him it's a company car!

Remote Control Programming (1997 ON)

1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition.

2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second key.

3. Using the remote control press the Unlock button once, and the horn will sound once.

4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the coding procedure. The remote control will now be programmed.

NOTE : When performing programming on additional remotes the procedure is the same, except you press the unlock button 2, 3 or 4 times for the different remote.

For example : If programming 2 remotes press the unlock button twice with a 1 second interval between each press, repeat for 3 and 4 remotes.

5. Switch Ignition OFF.

6. Remove key from ignition and check for operation.

ive read that as pressing the unlock button on the non-working key while its in the ignition. it could also be read as pressing unlock on the 2nd key outside in the door you reckon? (the horn doesnt sound either)
