Just about to pop out the shops to get something to clean up my rear XTR disc, which got a bit marked up by some contaminated pads.

    Should i get:

    a) Wire wool.

    b) Fine grade wet/dry

    Cheers

Hey buddy, personally i think i'd go for 'b'. However i've never tried it so if someone who's tried it responds i'd listen to them. One thing i do know though is that when i used minearal spirits (like meths) to clean my dics it ruined the pads so I would use a designated cleaner.

Cleaning-removing oil or such like that has contaminated your disc I use common or garden Auto brake cleaner.

Removing scoring marks caused by "contamintaed" pads with embedded grit particles, You need a brake disc lathe.

Wet and dry will only make the problem worse when the SiC particles get onto your pads.

Wire wool tends to be oily so an absolute no-no

I just use those little alcohol wipes that they use before an injection.
